Workshop Introduction
Lesson One!
In every momentâand every movementâwe count on accurate information about where we are in space and the position of our body parts in relation to each other. Without these âbodily perceptions,â we would not be able to orient ourselves and coordinate our movements and actions.
A continuous construct of our brain, our body image is an essential component in our self-perception and action, central to our sense of orientation and our ability to control our movement. Yet, our body image is not always accurate. It is often slightly distorted and lacking in details. Limited movements, non-efficient organization, physical discomfort, pain, stress, and our emotional state affect the quality and precision of our body image.
Fortunately, we can shape and influence our well-being and the quality of our movements by working directly with our body image. Understanding how our brain constructs our bodily perceptions allows us to tap into the plasticity of our body image and improve the way we sense ourselves.
In this on-demand program, Raz Ori leads us in an examination of the links between our bodily perception and our visual system. With original ATM lessons designed to reveal the dynamics of our brain's perception-creation process, you will explore the ties between sensing and seeing and learn how to create dramatic shifts in our self-perception. In his personal experience and his Feldenkrais practice, Raz has found that working directly on our body image can be the turning point in healing and recovery. While this is an ATM-focused program, Raz also discusses the Functional Integration applications of these ideas.
"I appreciate the friendly way Raz lead us towards movement, health, and life itself. He encourages us to focus on functions that work well, and shows us how to listen to internal resonances. I'm learning how to accept the expression of my body as whole in the present moment."
